Denmark is a small but culturally rich country with a population of 5.7 million, where about 13% are migrants and 25% are aged 60 or older. Known for its egalitarian values, Denmark emphasizes equality between genders in all aspects of life, including the workplace.
Danish society also values punctuality, direct communication, and personal space, which is reflected in their preference for quietness in public settings. The concept of "hygge," a cozy sense of togetherness, plays a significant role in Danish culture, alongside traditions like celebrating Christmas on December 24th and enjoying traditional foods like pork roast and salty licorice.
Geographically, Denmark consists of 42,000 km² with 7,300 km of coastline and 1,400 islands, of which 72 are inhabited. Its major cities include Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, and Aalborg, with the capital housing 1.2 million people. Denmark is one of the world’s oldest monarchies, currently ruled by Queen Margrethe II since 1972, and its democratic parliament, Folketinget, represents the people.
Danish is the official language, though English is widely spoken, especially in urban areas. The country retains its currency, the Danish Kroner, and credit cards with PINs are a common mode of payment. Whether exploring its vast cycling culture, stunning coastlines, or rich history, Denmark offers a blend of modernity and tradition that reflects its unique charm.
