Know Your Pay and Rights in Danish Agriculture The agricultural sector in Denmark also includes horticulture and nurseries. In Denmark, your wage in agriculture and horticulture depends on whether you work for a company or a farm covered by a collective agreement.

Working hours in Denmark

Working hours in Denmark are 37 hours a week and 7.4 hours per day.

There is an inbuilt flexibility on work hours in the collective agreements in agriculture. This means that the weekly workhours can be longer in e.g. harvestry.

Breaks

After 4 hours of work, you have 15 minutes break. Breaks are not included in work hours in agriculture and horticulture. 

 

Minimum wage in Denmark? There is there is no minimum wage in Denmark. Your pay is governed by a collective agreement negotiated by the trade union (3F) and the employer’s association. If your workplace is not covered by a collective agreement, you must negotiate your pay yourself.
Different wage for different kind of work

There are 2 main collective agreements in agriculture between 3F and the employer’s association, GLS-A:

  • Horticulture and nurseries
  • Agriculture

Interns and trainees are always covered by a collective agreement.

The net amount will be transferred directly to your bank account.

When are you entitled to overtime payment?
You are entitled to overtime pay if you work beyond your regular hours. For example, if your normal workday ends at 3:30 PM but you work until 5:30 PM, you are entitled to overtime pay for the hours worked after 3:30 PM, even if your total weekly hours are 37.

If you are not covered by a collective agreement, you will need to negotiate overtime pay on your own.

Special payments in agriculture If you work before 6.00 am and after 18.00 there is an advanced pay. The allowance differs according to the sector of agriculture you work in.
